Baja Window to the South Showcases Best of Baja California
Weekly show focuses on destinations, cuisine, adventure, and more

From the late seventies through the early nineties, “Tijuana Window to the South”—a thirty-minute show on San Diego public television—showcased Tijuana’s exciting tourism and rich, distinctly Mexican heritage. Each week, amenable and beloved host Jan Wood presented a stellar lineup of chefs, musicians, businesspeople, athletes, and other influential Tijuanense to a to a north of the border audience, largely based in California. It was the first program focused on Tijuana tourism.
San Diego Red is reviving the classic Tijuana Window to the South and widening its lens to focus on all of Baja California.—from Tijuana, to Ensenada, the Valle de Guadalupe, Mexicali, Rosarito Beach, Tecate, and beyond. “Baja Window to the South” is produced by Fabiola Camarena, known for her at TV Azteca and Zona MX. The show is hosted by Olga Sanchez de la Vega and A Gringo in Mexico’s very own Scott Koenig.
Baja Window to the South will engage audiences with visually compelling scenes from Baja’s countless picturesque locales, tantalizing insight into the region’s sumptuous cuisine, information on medical tourism and wellness, stories from its artists, musicians, and government officials, and a wide variety of other guests who will share their knowledge with people in the U.S. who have a desire to explore Baja California.
Host Olga Sanchez de la Vega, is a Baja California native, hailing from Mexicali. She graduated from Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA., and has become an entrepreneur who works tirelessly to give back to the Hispanic community and educate Baja’s business and leisure visitors.
Co-host Scott Koenig is a San Diego-based writer, author, influencer, and food expert known for his website AGringoInMexico.com. He has worked with numerous culinary professionals, tourism officials, and other leaders in the industry to create content for numerous online and print publications.
During each half hour episode, currently airing on both YouTube and Facebook, the hosts will uncover culinary treasures, explore beautiful beaches, and visit cultural landmarks, such as the best-reviewed vineyards, luxurious hotels, festivals, and iconic dining spots. Tacos with Muchachos, a segment of each show, goes in search of Baja’s best tacos.
